Beautiful Lens

May 26, 2015

This is one of the finest lenses I have ever owned. The first time I used it, the quality of the image took my breath away It's sharp, has beautiful contrast and great IQ. It's also quick to autofocus and is much easier to carry around than my FF Nikon gear. Both systems have their pros and cons, but I find myself using the OMD-1 with PRO lenses more and more. This lens was well worth the money. I would highly recommend it.

+ 1

This is my second Pro lens (delivered in Bahrain in 3 days flat) to be used with the 2 EM1s I have. After hands on tests which have gone very well, I shall buy (a) the new Pro wide angle zoom and (b) the teleconverter - when I have come back from my next two month trip. Just one point, should there be a 1/4-20 reducer bush supplied to the tripod collar? Mine didn't have one (although found one in my 'Man Tin'). That said, as many have said, this ... Show More

Fantastic! Worth it.

May 7, 2015

I bought this lens to get closer to sports action and have more freedom to frame shots. I waited a long time before pulling the trigger, and initially felt guilty since it was quite a lot of dough. BUT, after shooting a couple hundred photos, I must say, I thoroughly enjoy the surprises around every corner. Fantastic. Sharp, bright, fabulous photos at all focal lengths. Stunning. Solid and versatile.

Not designed for macro work, but this shot was hand-held in a relatively low-lit room. Very versatile.

Wonderful lens

Apr 10, 2015

As others have commented, this is a great lens. I purchased it just before a trip to Florida where I used it to mostly photograph birds. Like the 12-40mm PRO lens, the build quality is excellent. It is a solid lens with smooth focusing and an interesting (retro, some would say) hood design which after using I'd like to see incorporated in more lenses. The size and weight is somewhat greater compared to other lenses in the m43 system but it just m... Show More

Incredible Lens

Mar 3, 2015

This lens is awesome. It is built very well, has a clever sliding lens hood and is very sharp throughout the zoom range. It is relatively large and heavy for a micro four thirds lens but small when compared to a full frame 70-200mm for a DSLR system. Image quality is fantastic and the focus is dead silent and very fast. It even focuses very close for a lens of this focal length. It is a pretty amazing feat of engineering.

Love this lens!

Feb 14, 2015

One of the things that I have noticed since investing in a 4/3 system for travel, is that my images from my oly system were sharp and had terrific image quality. However, I was still very much committed to my nikon system for professional and fine art photographs because I had a large investment in terms of camera bodies and high end lenses. With the event of the om-d and olympus pro lens series, the price point was good enough to jump in and try... Show More

Wonderful Lens

Jan 13, 2015

I have only shot a few hundred shots with this lens so far due to lack of time but, from my first impression until now all I have are positive things to say. The construction is very nice up to par with any lens I have used. The lens is quite sharp and I have no issue with the bokeh wide open. It did take me a couple of tries to get the hood mechanism figured out but, that was hardly the fault of the lens. If this lens is in your budget you won't... Show More

Well Worth the Wait

Jan 9, 2015

Love it. Well made, solid, sharp lens. It's a bit hefty for an m4/3 system but consider the alternative. A Canon/Nikon would be a much larger and heavier system to schlep around. Paired with my Oly OM-D E-M1, it is ideal. Perfect, solid attachment. The lens hood retracts, but sometimes needs a little force to do so. I use this lens with the Oly MC-14 Teleconverter. Also nice and well made. Took some time getting used to the extra bulk with this s... Show More

Great for portraits

Dec 30, 2014

I have been waiting a little over a year for this lens to be released. It was well worth the wait. This is one of the best medium telephoto lenses I have used and for me surpasses the Canon and Nikon 70-200mm/2.8 lenses. The build quality is excellent and the triple-proof design makes this lens an excellent portrait lens even in freezing wet weather. The image quality in combination with the Olympus E-M1 is excellent and the additional reach espe... Show More

One Year Later

Dec 30, 2014

One year ago, almost to the day, I had spent enough time with my E-M5 to realize a new era was beginning. So I got an E-M1 with grip, a pro 12-40 F2.8, and a handful of amazing prime lenses. But the long glass was absent. The word was out that Olympus was working on a pro long-zoom, and I have enough confidence in Olympus that I dumped many dollars worth of Nikon gear on eBay and never looked back. It was a gamble, but honestly I didn't consider ... Show More

Excellent Telephoto Zoom

Dec 9, 2014

This is a terrific addition to the Micro Four Thirds system -- a fast, tough telephoto zoom with excellent optical performance, fully deserving of the PRO label. The lens is large by Micro Four Thirds standards, but not when compared to lenses covering similar focal ranges on APS-C or 35mm systems, or the Four Thirds ZD 50-200mm lens. Focus performance is very good with my E-M1 in both S-AF and C-AF. This lens also features a manual focus ring wh... Show More

Premium Lens High Quality Construction

Dec 6, 2014

High quality construction complements Olympus Micro Four Thirds OMD E-M1 camera. Even though this is a heavy lens compared to other less expensive micro four third lenses it is comparable to more expensive full frame camera lenses and its weight is countered by the included mount. I especially like the internal zoom and sliding storage lens hood. I'm impatiently waiting for additional Olympus PRO series micro four thirds lenses. I've been using Olympus OM cameras for over thirty years and highly recommend them for anyone looking for a smaller lighter format digital camera.

I could write a very long review about all the positive attributes of this lens. It's much easier just to say that I have nothing negative to report. It's an oustanding lens.

Absolutely spectacular lens!

Dec 2, 2014

I've shot with the Nikon 200-400 VRII, the new 80-400, and the 300 2.8 VRII (on D4 and D800e bodies) and, as good as those lenses are, this Olympus can hold its own! And, hold is the operative word here. Light, extremely fast focusing, and wonderful contrast. Did I mention sharp? You could cut youself on the images they are so sharp. Haven't tried it on my OMD E-M10, but on the E-M1, all is good! If the promised 300mm 4.0 is this good, there will... Show More
