Best Video Lens for A7s
First, I want to thank all those negative reviews. I picked up a mint returned copy for a reduced price. This stought/compact lens is a beauty and easily outperforms the 28-70 Nikkor that is almost as big and heavy with an adapter. The controls are located and work very well. Switches replace A7s menu items. Although this lens AutoFocuses exceptionally well on a FS7, I believe it was designed for the FullFrame A7s where it is more than wide enough for my use. I really like the feature where you pull back on the focus ring to lock it into manual focus if needed while shooting.

Am liking this camera now I have gotten to know it
Now after owning this camera for over 2-3 months I am really getting to know it and am getting much more consistent results I can now say its a great camera and highly recommend it. Best Camera I Have EVER owned!
I have owned high-end broadcast cameras since the SONY BVW-1A/3A to the F900. The SONY PXW-FS7 is hands down the best camera I have ever shot with or owned. The latitude is incredible, the images are very natural. DONT' BREAK THE MOUNT! BUYER BEWARE!
We owned 3 of these lenses, unfortunately, in the real world of film making, sometimes equipement break. 2 of our 28-135mm mount broke (one was dropped by accident and the other one broke during transport) Sony Services center won't offer any repairs claiming that the technology used in the lens won't allow such a simple piece to be repaired. I'd go for 2.5 stars but can't. Used this lens for the first time today with an FS7 on a documentary TV show. First things first: it's not wide enough. And I'm not talking wacky or stylistically wide, I mean wide enough for basic shooting. At 28mm, the crop makes it 42mm. That's the wide you have to work with. Best in price range but not perfect
Bought this camera 2 weeks ago and half way through a month long documentary about global business changes. Set in 15 cities around the world shot in various locations from night shots off cities to interviews in offices and day shots around cities. Great value hybrid cinematic lens
For those who will be using the Sony 28-135mm Lens, most will find it great. The power zoom is awesome, especially for those who have only been using photography lenses. As is, the zoom is ok. You CAN creep the zoom, by buying the remote control VCT-VPR1 (and throw away the flimsy tripod it comes with), and for some reason, the zoom is quicker when operated from this particular remote (there is a switch on the remote to enable/disable slow speed)... Fantastic video lens for the a7s
I'm surprised the first few reviews for this lens aren't good. This lens is awesome if you've been using photography lenses for the last 5 years. Also, if you pair it with an a7s, you get basically a 28-200 zoom range. The guy who said it's not sharp is just plain wrong. It's very sharp. The stabilization is great, the focus ring has a great feel with a long throw, and having a de-clicked aperture ring is great too. Great to have handgrip, BUT...
First impression - wow. Great pictures quality, easy to use and learn, especially if you came from any other Sony's camcorder. However, and I hope you already know that, be ready to spend a LOT for the extra stuff. Today I discovered that I need spend an extra cash in order to be able... guess what - put my camera on the tripod. To make story short - there is no way to slide the camera on/off the Manfrotto 502HD video head without removing FS7's handgrip. Here is a short video explaining the problem: ---------------. After a few months, not worth it
I understand why SONY made this. But I will get right to the point...I don't like it because:1) it is very odd in its response. This lens is frustrating. It begins zooming late and ends the zoom late. It isn't sensitive. if you are making reality TV or Doc's with it, don't - the lens isn't nearly wide enough. If you are making cinema with it, see #2:2) it is soft. The images are soft. Period.#1 would be bearable, but #2 really is the deal breaker for me. $ - great deal. But for what? Im selling mine and buying something different.

Unacceptably Slow Zoom
It's a great concept for a lens, but on my FS7 the zoom is unusable. After you release the zoom rocker, it continues zooming for nearly a full second!! Using the ring or controller on the lens itself, the lens responds better but still operates at 25% the speed of a true servo zoom that I typically using when shooting reality TV. The lens feels sturdy and smooth but in a true run and gun environment it won't cut it in my book. This lens may be a better companion on a full frame camera vs a S35 sensor.

For the price, it's serviceable.
One of the few servo zooms for the Fs7 that are under $20k and have an iris ring on the lens. A decent performer. Not as wide as most would like. Be advised that the zoom's servo is not infinitely variable. It won't feather start or feather stop. Impossible in my experience to do very slow creeping zooms with this lens. Great camera with a few drawbacks
I've had the camera a few weeks and have a slightly different perspective from other reviewers. Most of them are using it for pro video, my primary use is for shooting feature films (VOD and direct to DVD). I had built a kit of Nikkor and Sony prime DSLR lenses for use on the FS700, they work nicely on this camera also. Great Camera
You can't get much more bang for your buck! This is a great 4K camera. Exellent dynamic range when shooting outside. A little grainy in low light while filming in S-Log, but all in all pretty good. Sony fixed most of the erganomic issues of the FS-700 with this camera. Still a few kinks to work out though.

AMAZING CAMERA!!
IM very happy with my FS7. The colors are great in Slog3! A few drawbacks are the odd remote handle, this thing just seems like an afterthought but I guess its better than having to buy an arm in addition. The cord that plugs the monitor into the camera is not well thought out either. What do I do when it breaks? Sony obviously did this as forced failer. The C300 destroyer
180 FPS, optional raw output - around 14 stops dynamic range - 2000 native ISO - weighs almost nothing, batteries last a very long time - s log 3 and sgamut.cine. How could you hate this camera? I shot a short film with it - Charlie Chicken, Canine Artist - I love the camera. If you don't get it well that's your fault. Cause I can't wait to own it.

First and foremost, this review is based on a demo model and documentary/ENG style productions.Most certainly not a beginner's camera. Brilliant camera! I love it as a great all around tool. It is much heavier than my c100 so I wouldn't think about using my glidecam with this beast. then again... maybe. The high speed is so great.
