The best lens ever!!
This review is after 2 weeks of usage of the lens. I have read reviews where people are having CA issues, but so far I have not experienced this problem. I have not had this lens for that long, but I am absolutely in love with it! Bottom line is..this is the best lens you can get for the money.

Great lens
Even though I haven't used much yet, so far so good! Colors and sharpness are very much like the 50mm 1.8 but of course without the focusing issues of the 50 I can shoot very quickly with the lens programmable button on eye autofocus! I recommend this lens for anyone in the Sony environment!

Nice lens
This is my first prime lens Ive only owned zoom lenses before. The lens does great in dark situations with my A7Riii. The bokeh that the lens makes is very creamy and does a great job of isolating your subject. Now I just need a 16, 24, and 55mm. Looking forward to trying the A9ii with it.

CA dealbreaker
As others I eyed this lens due to the great price and size. Unforgently the lens suffers from significant CA wide open. Even in portraits I found purple in the talents lashes. Good at 2.8, but not what I was looking for. Such a shame as it's plenty sharp... Returned mine for the Batis.

Stellar as expected
This lens has lived up to the hype. Sharp as a tack, amazing for portraits, slight green and purple fringing wide open. You could spend three times more for the G-Master but I know I won't. Super solid lens. Ergonomics are great and it isn't too too big. Would definitely recommend.

Wonderful Glass for the Price
I just started getting into photography and Im using the Sony a7R and I really have to say that this is a nice piece of glass to start with. Although you have to use your feet for most of the photo shoots you were going to do. This glass comes out sharp and very crisp every time.

Awful Chromatic Aberration
This is a center crop: 7R IV, full frame mode, F1.8, 1/2500 second, EV -0.7, hazy day late, not too bright. B&H, as always with something dodgy, took it back. Since I see quite a few others have encountered this or something like it, I will replace it with something else.

Sharp when wide open.
This is a very good lens for portraits. It is tack sharp and compact / lightweight. I shoot with it wide open most of the time, and it's extremely sharp. Great lens for portraits. F/1.8 is perfect for that nice blur background. Ultra-sharp Perfect for my Sony A7RIII Camera.

Just what i had hopes it would be.
I hate ordering something and then being let down. I am not at all unhappy with this purchase. The Sony 85 mm 1.8 really shines. It is superbly sharp and very responsive. I bought it for my backordered A7iii, but till then I am using it on my a6500. couldn't be more happy.

A nice lens or both Sony A7III as well as on Sony A6000
I purchased this lens along with Sony AIII camera for Portrait work for upcoming wedding in the family. It is sharp, small, lightweight and reasonably priced lens. I also tried it on Sony A6000 and works great. I would recommend it to those interested for portrait work.

Great Lens For the Price!
This lens is amazing for the price, focuses quick and accurate, very sharp, chromatic abberation can be noticed every once in a while, but for sony glass its well worth it! Used this last week during a wedding and performed great even during the reception in low light!

Loving this lens!
I needed something to capture faces/reactions at a distance and it came in handy during my shoot. Well worth the price tag and away cheaper then some other lenses that are basically the same thing. What else can you expect from Sony. Great stuff, worth the buy.

I can recommend this lens to anyone,
The only lens in this focal length for an a7ii or a7rii, that would be better is the 85 G Master. The lens is tack sharp, quick accurate focus, and great build quality. If you are looking for a portrait lens, priced for those of us on a budget, a great option.

Great Budget 85mm
Sharp and quick af paired with my a7rii. Vignetting is there but fixable in post and the chromatic aberration isn't as bad as some people are making it out to be (yes, theres purple fringing). Overall well worth the price especially if you can get it on sale.

disappointed with B&H
The Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 Lens and the filter are excellent. The order was filled and shipped in a timely manner. However, just a few days after I ordered the lens it went on sale for $50.00 less. I would have thought you would have given me the $50.00 discount

Great lens, sharp & reasonable price
A great performing lens, especially for the price. Nice to see that Sony is starting to find the performance/price sweet spot for a few of their offerings out there. Highly recommended for anyone needing a relatively quick lens with AF at this focal length!

Gah!
I really wanted to like this lens. It's super sharp, a nice perspective, and takes nice shots...BUT... The chromatic aberrations are terrible. Even stepping up, the purple fringing makes this lens unusable in brighter light, or any high-contrast situation.

Outstanding value
I've acquired more than a few FE-mount lenses since the emergency of the A7 series. The 85/1.8 delivers an extraordinary combination of compactness, speed, optical quality and utility. If I can have only one medium telephoto lens for the A7, this is it.

Great budget lens, not ideal for portraits
I like the autofocus performance, the sharpness and the quietness of this lens but as a portrait photographer, I'd have to use something else. The CA is plenty and heavy when shot wide open that it becomes cumbersome to fix, if it can be fixed at all.

Should have in your kit. Perio
For not being a G master lens, you would think it is. AF fast. Build quality, stellar. Bokeh has that vintage, swirly look but I like it! And it's Sharp. Sharp. SHARP. Just get this lens, you won't regret it. Why are you still reading this? Buy it!

Great Lens
I shoot Sony a6500's, so this lens becomes 125.5 mm for me, a great low-light telephoto. It allows close individual and more distant group shots at performances while not being too obtrusive. I usually define the focus hold button to be Eye-AF.

Excellent Value
Compared to Batis its an excellent purchase. Way smaller than GM. Fit and finish is nice but not like the GM or Batis. Only issue is bounce when in continuous focus. In single shoot it locks on fast in good lighting. Very quiet in auto focus.

Great Lens, Great Value
I agree with all the reviews for this lens. Many videos online regarding the 85mm f1.8 which demonstrate the capabilities. This a fun lens delivering awesome pics and video for a reasonable cost. I'm very happy with my choice and purchase.
