An Excellent Little Camera

Apr 13, 2015

I had the RX100 a couple of years ago and returned it after several weeks. I bought the MK3 a couple of weeks ago and it is much improved. You have to remember it is not a DSLR but a very good little camera. I can now have a camera on me at all times. I found setting the camera up to my liking very easy and the results I'm getting are excellent. It is what it is and there is not another camera this size that can produce the same image quality. I am very happy with it. BTW, the new EVF is a godsend -especially when shooting outdoors.

OK, but I prefer the RX100 II

Apr 13, 2015

I upgraded to this from the RX100 II. After spending a day with it, I sent it back and decided the RX100 II was a better camera. I thought the pop-up EVF was too small and hard to see through. The multi-fuction shoe is gone, and in its place is a nice flash. On the positive side, the electronic ND filter option was nice. But I liked the feel and the lens better on the RX100 II.

A remarkablle best of breed P&S camera

Apr 12, 2015

I am a professional documentary photographer, who works soley with available light. The Sony RX1000 III perfectly fulfills my needs for a compact, unobtrusive, quiet, camera with fast lens, low noise, and professional level optical resolution. The image quality is supurb. The focus is often spot on, but is slow and inconsistent in dim light. The memu is more complex than necessary, with important adjustments, such as focus point, not immediately ... Show More

Great Image Quality, Futzy Handling

Mar 31, 2015

I bought this camera a a general carry-around camera and to use in a dive housing while sea kayaking. I write for a kayaking magazine and need pictures taken on the water. While I love the image quality -- much better than the Nikon AW1 I used last year -- there are a few things about the handling that really bugs me: * The histogram disappears from the screen when using exposure compensation. I use the ETTR method of exposure and really need to ... Show More

underwhelmed

Mar 31, 2015

I had the RX100 mark 1 for about two and a half years when I broke it. I LOVED that camera. I bought the new mark 3 basically for the faster lens. Is it worth the extra $. Maybe? Although I like the extra aperture I get with the new mark 3 the focus is more finicky. Sometimes it doesn't pick up focus on things that it shouldn't have any problem focusing on and I end up fighting with the camera and missing the shot. Also, at close distances and th... Show More

Love it

Mar 29, 2015

I travel quite a bit, and I travel light. I previously have owned a Contax G, and Lumix GF-1, but this little beauty just hits most everything right. While I have inadvertently entered into menu items because of the buttons on the back, I have learned how to hold the camera to avoid this - and I am pleased with most of the photos on the automatic setting. Its a smart little camera with big results. I'm very happy with it. The viewfinder is stunni... Show More

Terrific Compact Camera!

Mar 25, 2015

This Sony RX100-III takes incredibly detailed images which is the reason I bought it. I did side by side shooting with this camera and my Canon G15 (which I always thought was a pretty good camera) and the difference in image quality was very noticeable, both in RAW and JPEG. Even though it zooms only to 70mm, with 20 megapixels, I was able to crop the image to match the one taken at 140mm with my G15 and the quality was still better even with cropping half of it away. I highly recommend this camera to anyone who wants good detail in their images.

Not for beginners

Mar 11, 2015

An absolutely fantastic camera. The amount of control I'm given with relative ease is impressive. It does require a decent amount initial training time to feel comfortable, but the menu wheel and focus ring make for intuitive and accurate adjustments. Overall a fantastic camera for everything from scenary shots, street art and portraits.

Love this little pocket camera!

Mar 5, 2015

So far I have had the camera for a week and it is giving me all that I had hoped for...a travel shooter that I can use for our upcoming trip. Since I usually use my NIKON D700, this is much easier to pack. Photos are good with some artifacting and chromatic aberration on close inspection but pretty darn good. Still learning how to use it and will mostly stick with the RAW settings. Have NOT been able to get it up and running with WiFi yet. Will have to trouble shoot that with Sony I guess. Overall, a great buy and B&H always deliver!

Only 75 pictures on full charge???

Mar 4, 2015

I used my Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III for the first time at a guitar concert and didn't anticipate more than 100 shots being taken. To my amazement and disappointment, I got only about 75 shots, mostly no flash, from the first full battery charge. It is advertised and listed in the book as getting 325 shots from a full charge--quite a difference. I could have a defective unit or a defective battery and will have to do some experiments to determine w... Show More

compact powerhouse

Feb 26, 2015

I work as a pro shooter using large bodied DSLRs. When i'm out and about i love having a compact camera with more flexibilty than a smartphone. I look for compact near-pocket size, fast zoom thru the entire range, RAW capabilty, HD video. But after owning a compact with no eye level finder, a camera with an add on finder that was lost and replaced, and one with an optical finder that was woefully inaccurate, i swore my next compact would have a b... Awesome, Awesome camera!

Feb 23, 2015

Besides the fact that this camera takes great pictures, it's video capabilities are just fantastic for being a compact camera and with the incredible bonus that it has clean Hdmi output so that I can record super high quality ProRes video onto an external recorder just puts it over the top. I love this camera. I had the RX100 mk2 and loved it but this is even more incredible! Thank you Sony!

Believe the hype!

Feb 22, 2015

I never thought all the controls of a big, heavy DSLR could be found on a tiny, light point & shoot - but here it is! I need a viewfinder to avoid camera shake, and the DSC-RX100 III has that and a whole lot more! We bought this as our go to video camera for our Disney trips (lots of low light there), but it's the camera I choose to carry around for those everyday shots in my purse. The convenience of the WiFi is great - I can get a good, quality shot and transfer it directly to my phone to upload to social media - no more grainy, bad quality shots to share with my friend and family!

This Was The Right Camera For Me

Sony RX100m3: was it the right camera for me?. I was considering buying the Sony RX100m3, but first I needed to decide what my basic requirements for a new camera were? Would the RX100m3 do the job? My answer turned out to be yes. So what was I looking for? What was on my list of requirements? For me it ... - had to have a fast, sharp, superiority quality, zoom lens - f2.8 or faster at all lengths. - had to have a sensor big enough to capture and... Show More

Excellent snapshot camera

Feb 5, 2015

I bought this for times when I don't want to carry my full DSLR kit around. I love it so far, and am impressed with the image quality. The only thing I don't like is the placement of the movie and menu buttons. The movie button can be deactivated unless in movie mode, but I find the lower part of my thumb hits the menu button too often while holding the camera. A minor quibble that will most likely disappear as I get more used to it. Expensive, but worth it.

Purchased for carry anywhere camera

Feb 3, 2015

Although no camera is perfect, this one comes very close for the money (Such a Deal!). I wanted a carry camera with a zoom. The RX100III fits nicely into a small belt mounted Lowepro case that I found in @ that I purchased for protecting and carrying everywhere. Being used to lugging a Canon 5DMKII with Canon 24mm--70mm L glass lens (read heavy as lead), I find the RX100III a joy to carry on my belt. The 24mm to 70mm zoom range matches that of my... Love the camera. I bought it for vacation because I was tired of lugging the camera bag around in order to get great shots. I'm very impressed with the ease of use, fast shutter speed, and variety of lighting situations that I can use without worry about picture quality. My other family members are envious. I would recommend this camera if you don't mind the cost.
