Great budget solution for 1080p video.

Dec 12, 2016

Wow. Having used the Nikon D3200 for video work for the past couple of years, I was completely blown away by the difference in quality when I switched to the Sony a6000. The low light performance, bitrate and video quality, the amazing auto-focus, the tilting screen, the compact size... I'm literally blown away. Paired up with a budget lens such as the Sigma 30mm f2.8, this is, in my opinion, the ultimate affordable setup for 1080p video.

Outstanding upgrade

Jan 12, 2015

recently upgraded from a Pentax K500 (my first DSLR). While that was a great camera, this Sony is incredible. The autofocus is so lightning quick and reliable that I don't think I've taken it off Auto-continuous yet. Extremely compact and lightweight, yet comfortable to grip, even with large hands. Slight learning curve on the interface and menus, but once you get it it's pretty simple to find what you're looking for. Highly recommended!!

sony a6000

May 20, 2015

I am a mid range photographer and will use this for my personal photo shoots. I have had the Sony for 2 weeks and so far, I am thrilled with it The relief of no heavy weight is great and the clarity of the pictures is very good. I have the 16-50mm lens and see no problem with what it is designed to do. I also got a Sony telephoto lens. The only problem is no instruction booklet but there are you-tube presentations that are very helpful.

An Amazing Camera BUT NO built-in Image Stabilization!

Oct 10, 2015

I have hand tremors. I made the mistake of assuming that like ALL prior Sony A-mount cameras, it had IS built in. IT DOESN'T! I have numerous legacy Minolta Maxxam and Sony A-mount lenses, but with the LAEA4 adapter I purchased, the net result is an ungainly look and feel with no significant savings in bulk or weight. Unless I decide to invest in E-mount telephoto lenses, the camera is relegated for wide angle and standard lenses ONLY.

Great value and small size

Aug 30, 2017

I bought this to supplement my full frame Nikon setup for the times when I don't want to carry a large rig. It works great for that. Light, good high ISO performance, a respectable EVF, and solid AF speeds. You really can't beat it for value. I've paired it with a Sigma 30 1.4 and they make for a very capable light rig. It doesn't match my FF Nikon+50 1.4G for image quality but it really isn't that far behind and is much more portable.

Pretty versatile low profile camera

Jul 8, 2014

Nice camera. I'm just a casual photographer, but have always wanted to get into it and see what you can do with different lenses. So... I'm thinking I found my gateway drug with Sony Alpha A6000. Very versatile. I got the 16-50 & the 55-210 lenses, and am looking hard at some others now. The apps you can download are nice. Controlling the camera with your mobile device is sweet, as well as being able to send the photos directly to it.

Great Addition!

Aug 3, 2017

So far this is a fantastic camera. I have two Sony A-Mount bodies and a lot of Sony and Minolta lenses. I purchased a used LA-EA 2 adapter and the camera works perfectly with all my lenses. I also have a few Leica R lenses that I use with a Metabones adapter. They work effortlessly with the focus peaking. I bought this to use on vacations and when I wanted a smaller camera to carry but it will also work as a second body for seddings!

I love the speed for shooting sports!

Sep 21, 2015

I upgraded from the a58 and this camera is way faster when shooting sports. I was holding out for the 7II, but decided, based on price, to give the a6000 a chance. I will need to upgrade my glass collection either way. The only complaint is the battery. I am sure the reason it uses the battery so quickly is because of that speed I love. I carry an extra to football games and I always have to change it at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Awesome deal, awesome camera

Jan 8, 2016

Did some research on mirrorless cameras. Decided to get the Sony Alpha a5100. When I came across the post-Christmas deal at B&H and was able to get the a6000 with two lenses and the free accessory kit for a little more than the a5100. I've taken about a dozen pictures. I am very happy with product and B&H. The only downsides: took a bit to get the WiFi up and running & free bag too small to fit all the items that came with the kit.

Great pics from fun camera

Nov 16, 2014

I'm an amateur but I've been getting some great pics with this camera. Light enough to take on hikes easily. There aren't a lot of e-mount lenses, but I have several that are a lot of fun. One complaint is the short little cord for charging. I don't really like having to plug the whole camera in to begin with, but the short cord makes it even worse. That ends up being a small complaint for a quality camera at a pretty good price.

Lightweight Powerhouse

Dec 26, 2019

I chose this camera kit based on the recommendations of a friend who has one and my brother-in-law, who is a professional photographer. The camera body barely weighs more than my old advanced point-and-shoot that it replaced. The lenses also are light weight. As a hiker, backpacker and birder, I do not want to be weighed down by large or bulky camera gear. I look forward to learning to use all the features offered by this camera.

Sony A6000 with 16-70 lens

May 22, 2014

I made the transition to mirrorless, mainly due to the size of the camera. I find that the A6000 produces nice photos with sony 16-70 lens in most lighting. The hybrid focus very fast. Most important is, it's fun and easy to use. I highly recommend this camera,I still love my Canon 6D with 24-105 prime lens, don't sell your DSLR full frame camera- not now. Sony still my second camera with 16-70 lens as of today it works for me.

Dashed High Hopes

Mar 22, 2016

As a professional photographer with a recently fractured right clavicle, I was looking for a light weight camera to take on vacation while my shoulder healed. I'm spoiled and not used to an electronic viewfinder which I found extremely frustrating and almost impossible to focus. For me a camera's menu should be simple and not overly complicated. The a6000 has too many (and not needed) bells and whistles. I returned the camera.

Nice Sony Alpha A6000 Camera

Jan 17, 2018

Very good camera, I love purchase on BHPhotoVideo site. The package deal is perfect, as quality of product and additional accessories were perfectly what I was expecting. Even after couple of research I have found that the extra WATSON battery which comes with this deal is awesome as compared to other brands. also, to mentioned class 3 memory card is really good with fast access. Overall, perfect product to start photography!

I am an advanced amateur with Canon DSLR (60 D)and several Canon lenses. I wanted a lighter ILC for travel and landscape photography. I am impressed with the quick AF, the color rendition is fantastic.. Comparable to the Fuji camera lineup. I chose Sony( for the first time) because of price and product specs.Battery life is terrible. Maybe a firmware update in the near future. I would recommend this product up to the ProLevel

Nice lite camera

Sep 22, 2015

I have a Nikon D800 but it's getting too heavy to carry around. I wanted something I was likely to take with me everyday. The Sony A6000 had what I wanted. It's lite, great sensor and has a viewfinder. The kit lens is OK. But I went and bought the Sigme 30mm Art lens and that is so much better I have yet to take it off the camera. If they had included a cap to the hotshoe and a charger for the battery I would give it 5 stars.

So far So Good

Feb 28, 2016

Plenty of reviews and recommended gear to be researched online, since this camera came out 2014. More and more lens are being introduced every year, which is a plus. Good for beginner to intermediate level photographers IMO, features are less appealing to a professional from all the reviews I read. Kit lens is less desirable, but if you want a zoom feature its ok. If not, just get body and a prime lens, save a little money.

Not good for low light

Nov 27, 2017

I had this camera for about a week, I took some shots in low light outdoors, the sun was not completely down. The photos even at ISO 400 look really grainy. I was shooting RAW, when I got home, I took a look at the photos in Lightroom, they where not usable. Maybe its operator error. I dont know, but I wish I wouldve done more research before purchasing this camera. Ill probably be selling it soon, since I cant return it.

awesome camera

Finally decided to purchase a good camera for myself. I had no idea what type of camera to buy. I didn't want a huge camera but I wanted one that would take good quality pictures. I ran into a proffesional photographer on vacation and he recommended a mirrorless camera. They don't break the bank and are a major upgrade from a cell phone. The Sony Alpha a6000 is perfect. I am so happy with it. I would highly recommend it.

Great portable camera!

Jan 11, 2016

I bought this camera because the significant other doesn't let me use the other cameras in the house. So far, the camera has been great at capturing my infants daily conquests. The camera has easy controls, portable and works fast at capturing images. The only cons to this camera would be the weight. Between carrying the diaper bag with the camera, carrying an infant and chasing a toddler, I wish this camera was lighter.

Great Camera

Dec 26, 2014

The camera is affordable, the lenses are OK, and I think it can not be beat at this price range. If you want to record videos, maybe you will need to get an external mic, because the internal mic of the a6000 is not that good. But if you are just recording only family videos, then you will be fine. I gave this product 5 stars because it is incredible for its price. Pro features in an amateur price range. Thank you, Sony!

Great having a viewfinder

Jan 2, 2015

Nice step-up from the NexF3N. The hot shoe is much preferred over the screw in connection on earlier Sony ILC's. The viewfinder is excellent. On prior models with no viewfinder, I had too many occasions where the LCD screen was washed out, which meant shooting blind. My only complaint so far is the location of the SD card slot up against the battery compartment cover. Not too bad getting a card in, but tricky to remove.
