Still will not work on IOS Catalina
I was about to return this X5 since it will not work with my i Mac and Catalina. I decided to upgrade to 2019 i Mac and with Mojave OS works pretty good, but not as fast as advertised. I still have a second i Mac with Catalina with the hopes a fix will come so this drive could also be used on this computer.

500GB library transfer in 20 minutes
I am using the disk to keep several photo editing machines in different locations synchronized. Setting up a new machine required moving 500GB of images to it. Using SmartSync (Windows 10), the initial synchronization (moving all files to the new machine) took 20 minutes. This is considerably faster than using USB 3.1 disks. So far, so good.

Great drive
I am using this drive on a Dell Windows 10 laptop with a thunderbolt docking station. the dock has a thunderbolt 3 port. I plugged it in and it immediately connected. It is very fast and I have no complaints.

Not as fast as I thought
So having an EVLVR I bought the X5 and plugged it in with anticipation into my HP SPECTRE T3 port - its slightly faster than the EVLVR but not worth twice the money !

Really Fast, beware power draw
This thing is truly fast. I get 2000 MBps write and 2500 read. Only snag is power draw on Macbook Pro with 85w power supply. I had to disconnect external usb3 hard drive and powered accessory (bus powered thunderbolt video monitoring device) so the computer could adequately power the X5. Understandable, and not a deal breaker for me. Moving 60 gig files in under a minute, makes life at work quite a bit more productive.

Oh my.......
I was apparently an early adopter, as the price has come down since last October. This thing is solid. All claims about speed are right on. I use this primarily as a backup drive to store all of my raw music as well as my photo and video collection. It used to take an hour or more to transfer my backups using usb A drives. This, paired with my Mac, handles the same transfers in under two minutes. Thats 120GB of data in less than 120 seconds. If you have Thunderbolt 3 enabled ports, do yourself a favor and pick up this beast!
