Horrible focus on g85

Aug 22, 2019

The lens is very sharp and provides great dof, but it is so slow to focus and hunts all the time. I used this lens for an interview on my b cam. The subject kept moving back and forth and the lens kept over shooting when focusing. There was also a noticeable 3 to 4 second delay. I have no issues with the kit 12-60mm lens when set to 45mm as a comparison.

Save your Money

Dec 19, 2016

It's OK, I guess. Not that sharp... soft focus, and why on God's green earth is the lens the size of a golf ball? Even the lame Panasonic 12-35mm lens is bigger than that... the diameter of the 42.5mm f1.2 is what this one should be too. If you want real quality with decent resolution go with a full frame sensor, don't go cheap like i mistakenly did.

Hunting for Focus

Jan 6, 2020

All the positive comments for the other reviews are true. I especially like that the lens is light, fast, and creates a nice bokeh. I only gave it a four because it takes longer to find focus than the Lumix 12-35mm. I stay in manual but use push-auto-focus to set up the shot. The 12-35 finds focus quickly while the 42.5 does quite a bit of hunting.

Excellent, light weight and very sharp lens

Dec 24, 2017

This is a very sharp lens that is great for portraits or landscapes. Just as sharp as the Olympus 45mm in my opinion but with added features. Excellent close focus capabilities and built in stabilizer. I feel that this lens equals 85mm lenses from full frame companies like Nikon, Canon or Sigma. A great lightweight lens to use everyday.

Wow, just... WOW

This lens is worth every penny! Very sharp and the bokeh is just GORGEOUS. It is a small lightweight lens but the quality is fantastic. This is my no# portrait lens for sure! But even just for anything (landscape, street), this lens is great! It is fast, sharp, and does very well in low light. And did I mention the bokeh..??

Fantastic Lens

Nov 12, 2015

I bought it for its low light capabilities as well as the ability to use AF on a GH4 while shooting video. Although I have used it for only one theater event I was very impressed with the sharp video in low light. It is primarily a portrait lens but I am finding that for the money it is useful as a video lens as well.

Limix 42.5mm f1.7

Jan 10, 2018

Really nice lens. Good for portraits and close up. With the high appature setting, it can produce a nice shallow depth of field effect. If you are planning to take a lot of portrait pictures, this is the one you will get. I had to return it because I find it a little to close of a focal length than what I need.

In their face

Jan 26, 2019

This is not a focal length that I use often, generally getting to it with a zoom. But this lens was so often recommended that I decided to try it. It is remarkably light and compact, and on my E-M5 is unobtrusive enough to capture pictures of the grandkids (the kids are too fast-moving to call them portraits).

Xlnt and a bargain

Jan 18, 2017

Compared this on a GX85 against the Nikon 85mm f1.8G on a D810 and was surprised on how well it did. I'm glad I didn't get the Nocticron 1.2, which I'm sure is better but is also big, heavy and very expensive, defeating the reason for owning the GX85 as a small carry-everywhere alternative to the D810.

Good lens

Mar 9, 2018

I'm no expert, but this lens is shooting a solid portrait with good depth-of-field and good blurring in the background. I'm looking forward to shooting it at night soon. I feel this was a good purchase and complements my kit 12-60 and the 14-140 well. Net up will be something with a wider angle.

Amazingly sharp and small

Apr 18, 2016

This lens is an excellent performer on my GX7. Smooth bokeh and tremendous sharpness edge to edge even wide open. Used to have the Olympus when it was the only game in town but this 42.5 has OIS. If I had to find one thing to complain about, I wish it had 46mm filter size instead 37.

Well Done

Apr 9, 2017

This is a very nice lens. Beautiful & sharp images and fits the system (size wise) very well. It doesn't have the same feeling of quality (heft and size) as the Leica lenses but it is a much better value than the Leica 42.5. At least for now, it will do very nicely.

Great lens

Mar 8, 2017

Great lens. Works well with my Olympus OMD EM1. I chose this lens over the Olympus 45mm f1.8 because it focuses closer, comes with a lens hood, and from what I read, is a little sharper in the corners. After receiving it, I am very satisfied with its performance.

Amazing, Sharp

First of all IBIS does makes a difference. 5 axes already included on my G9 help a lot but the extra lens IBIS is always welcomed. Portrait photos look sharp and have no chromatic aberration on my point of view, so far my customers feel pleased with the photos.

Probably 5 Stars

Mar 20, 2016

I have had the lens for a few weeks paired with a Panasonic GX8. It is as wonderful as everyone claims and is sharpest in my hands at f/4. I need more experience with it before I can give a final ranking but it will be in the 4-5 star range for sure.

Excellent small fast and light

Aug 26, 2016

Small fast ,light and high image quality. Bokeh is rich and beautiful. Great portrait and landscape lens. There is cr at f1.7 when shooting tree branches backlit against a bright blue sky - not bad enough to take a star away. Overall very pleased.

Great Lens

Apr 7, 2017

I used this lens on my GH4 with V-Log setting, in a night scene with one panel light and an overhead street light. The shot turned out very good. As for daylight, great DOF, great close-up shots and easy to manually focus. I love this lens.

Outstanding

Feb 9, 2018

Individual copies may vary, I suppose, but my 42.5mm f/1.7 happens to be one of the sharpest lenses I own, even wide open. It's sharper than the Olympus 45mm f/1.8 copy that I used to own, and it focuses closer too as an added bonus.

Ive used this lens for a couple of documentary interviews. Its the perfect focal length for head and shoulders, and the relatively fast aperture provides a nice bokeh to keep viewers focused on the subject, not the background.

Excellent lens for the price. Bokeh is great and if you can get far enough from your subject makes an excellent interview lens. Eventually would like the Leica 1.2 42.5 but it's a lot of money.
