Great Camera
Coming from a Nikon D7000 I was not disappointed. The image stabilization is unbelievable. I can shoot a 300mm handheld with great sharpness. Love this camera!

This is a review of the accessory kit, not the camera.
The Ruggard bag (Onyx 25) in this kit is too small to fit the camera with its kit lens (or pretty much any non-pancake lens), in any orientation. There is another Ruggard bag, the Onyx 35, which is big enough to hold the camera with a lens, and it costs $0.04 less than the current included bag. I hope that B&H considers switching the bag that is included in the kit, because the current bag is essentially useless - after giving up on trying to mak... Show More

Terrific starter, or any other, ILC camera.
Upgrading from the world of point and shoot I certainly stressed over the purchase of my first interchangeable lens camera. So many brands and choices to choose between, and really not a lousy camera or system among them. In the end I went with the Panasonic G85 and couldn't be happier. I wanted an ILC that was accessible for a beginner, but still advanced enough that I could grow into. Great ergonomics, build quality, photo quality, and selection of lenses. Perhaps an interesting choice for someone who doesn't do video (yet), but the G85 certainly works for me.

Battery Life for Photos is Excellent!!!
Full Disclosure: I can't append my prior review, but I just used my G85 at an all day track meet and have some additional insight I wish to share! At the end of the track meet my battery had worked it's way down to just 1 bar. I'm still trying to get the settings on the camera to where I want, and had realized that the EVF did not appear to go into sleep mode. If I can adjust the sleep settings I can probably get more life out of that battery. I... Show More

Replacing my Nikon D7100!
The Panasonic G85 is a Fantastic Camera! I bought the G85 in order to evaluate the Micro Four Thirds format. I had only intended to use MFT as an always-handy second systemthat I could take to work, or travel, etc. My Nikon system would still be the 'Real Photography' set-up for studio shooting, etc. I exclusively used the G85 for several months in order to get familiar with its features and operation. When I went back to using my Nikon D7100I... Show More

Great G85, but don't get excited about the free case
The Rugged case offered as a giveaway is too small for this G85/12-60 kit lens, in any orientation. I don't routinely take my lens off to put camera back in the case, so this case is useless for me.

Better than expected!
After reading the reviews and watching countless YouTube videos about this camera, I decided to dive in and I do NOT regret that decision at all. I haven't had any issues with focusing and the camera's performance for still photos is even better than I expected. At first, I was also debating getting several other lenses, but the kit lens is fantastic and covers a great range, so it will most likely serve as my go to lens for most shooting scenarios.

Fantastic camera
Don't be put off that it's "only" 16MP. The lack of AA filter plus improved processing means the photos look as good or better than 20MP cameras. It's lightweight and feels great in the hand. I tried the G9 and it just felt too big and uncomfortable, so I decided to stay with the G85. The image stabilization is incredible, especially with those Panasonic lenses compatible with Dual IS II. I was very pleasantly surprised with the high ISO performa... Show More

Best 4K Camera For Price
I bought this camera for the 4K video capabilities and was extremely impressed. I had been debating between a more expensive DSLR or the Lumix G85 - and I am so glad I went with the G85. First - the higher priced DSLR's usually record in 1080 instead of 4K, so the image quality (for video) is better. Second - the G85 features exceptional image stabilization which is crucial for professional quality handheld shots. Third - the G85 also features we... Show More

Superb Camera
I am not technical enough to write a lengthy review, so this will be from the gut. This is a fantastic camera in a very good-value price range. This camera has so many features that there is an unavoidable learning curve to cover them all, even superficially. However, the auto function works so well that you can start taking super photos immediately, while you learn about all the other functions. Don't believe what some are saying about micro ... Best video camera for under 1,000. So-so kit lens.
Best video camera for under $1,000 You can't go wrong with this one, it's a great all-rounder. Super video, very good still pictures. good ergonomics. It's like a G7 plus. Kit with lens or body? The new kit lens is sharp at 12mm, but mediocre at other focal lengths. It is, however, one of the few lenses that has the advances IS that works with the new IS in the camera. Fact is, you wont see a difference. If you get a good deal on the lens, go for... Show More

Great enthusiast camera
I own several DSLR bodies (Nikon D750, D7200, D7100, Pentax K3/K5IIs) and I wanted something light to carry around.Prior to this G85 I never owned a mirrorless camera so I didn't know what to expect. The camera is well put together. It is not a lot smaller than my smallest DSLR (Pentax K5IIs) but it is quite a bit lighter. The menus and functions are easy to figure out and the viewfinder is pretty nice. The camera is easy to hold even for my lar... Show More

Many Improvements
The G85 compared to the G1 & G5 is a larger more robust camera with better build quality and over 40 new or upgraded features. Many of these new features are complex and will require an extended learning curve with many visits to the advanced manual. The video button remains recessed and is difficult to locate by touch. On off for it would be an excellent feature to be able to add to the Quick menu. My grip still presses the Display button ... Show More

Good image quality in a small, light package.
Having used Canon and Sony apsc and full frame cameras, I was surprised how good the image quality is. I can see why many pros use mft camera systems. The 12-60 is not a low light lens, but provides very good image and video quality, and the 24-120 range is great for most things I take photos of. I like it so much, I will add some prime lenses to my collection.

Great overall camera only missing a few things
A lot can be said about micro four thirds camera but being terrible isn't one of them! First off, there's a lot of missleading info when it comes to this camera. People say it isn't good in low light. That's a lie because most cameras even one's sporting a full sized sensor don't do well in low light. 2nd misleading comment is the auto-focus. Listen guys the auto-focus is fine. Even when compared to the Sony Alpha series or Canon. I did a present... Show More

Best one yet
This is the best camera i've ever used and that goes back a long way! I've had dslr's, p&s, and several miracles cameras in the past 10 years and i love this one; small, light, but still sturdy, with all the features (and then some) that i need, have always liked the articulating screen - one appreciated even more as we get older. i,m familiar with pana's menus so that was a big plus. the canon 10-18mm lens works great with an adaptor. i sent my dslr back in trade and wont be looking back.

Great Except for Battery Life
I bought this to compliment the GH4 as alternate angles for video. I am glad I purchased an extra battery. You'll get a bit over an hour of video in before the battery expires. Unlike the GH4 which so far has given me over 3 hours. Quality of image is about the same as GH4 from what I first can glimmer. Kit lens is good MFT quality and an all around lens for my needs, so the price is good for a camera/lens that goes beyond the 30 minute limit. If you don't need the lens, getting a GH4 now, with the lower prices for them, is your best bet.

Awesome Camera
We bought this as an upgrade from our (already excellent) G7 cameras and WOW the G85 is offers one of the best bang for the buck ratios in this price range, or even slightly higher. We regularly hire freelancers with various Sony A7SII and A6500 gear, and it's often very hard to tell the difference between the G85 footage and footage from other gear. In fact, we're often able to get shots that the other cameras didn't because of the G85's combina... Show More
