2nd test
Purple tone in the glare of the sun is very heavy and it is very disappointing. If you can avoid the sun, it works great.

firmware and lens lock up
Here is just another firmware lock up I am adding to. Try to upgrade new firmware for my 40-150 f2.8 old lens. After the firmware lens would no longer talk to camera and I had to send the lens in to Olympus, have not heard back from them. Beware.

A Great Lens
While I have only had this lens for two weeks, and have only used it to test its capabilities, I find it wonderful. While large it is still much smaller and lighter than any equivalent lens, and handles easily. Once you get the feel of the retracting lens shade, that is a great feature. Every thing works smoothly, and feels responsive to all handling. Well-designed, a joy to use, and all tests of the image quality show very good to excellent.

High Quality Lens
I can't say enough good things about the Zuiko 40-150 f/2.8 lens. It's extremely sharp even at it's widest opening, f/2.8, which I use quite often to isolate subjects from the background. The built in collapsible lens hood does an efficient job of controlling stray light and lens flare. If there is a negative comment, I'm using this lens on a Panasonic GX8 body and since the lens doesn't have built in stabilization I find that I'm using a monopod... Show More

Beautiful lens, but at a cost.
I thought long and hard about this. I tried one out a couple years ago at a shop and was really impressed with the build and the image quality. The new 12-100 was tempting and perhaps more practical, but I have the 12-40 and I wanted the reach that the 40-150 with the 1.4x converter provides. Plus I have a new OMD 1 MkII, so the integration and ability to use Pro Capture was a factor. I really appreciate f2.8 across the zoom range. Now that I've ... Show More

Excellent Lens!!
This is one of the sharpest lenses I have ever used! Even sharper than the Canon L lenses I have, including the 70-200 f/2.8 IS! On the Olympus EM-D M-5 Mk II body with IBS, the images at 300mm, hand held are tack sharp! Very impressive lens! Highly recommended!!

Outstanding Lens for M43 System
I shot continuously across two weeks with this after receiving it and could not be happier. It is extremely fast focusing, produces a magnificent Bokeh, and is extremely compact compared to a 35MM equivalent. I shot both RAW and JPEG and could not be happier with the results. It is an easy lens to hold by hand. I'm pretty sold on the non-stabilized lens concept since the newer OLY bodies have the 5-axis stabilization. I have a HOYA haze filter on... Show More

An exceptional lens
I've been a Nikon pro user for more than 20 years and over the last year decided to see what Olympus and Micro 4/3s could do for me. While Nikon Pro gear is great it does get heavy lugging a D3 body with a 70-200 f2.8 attached all day. So I bought the OM-D E-M1, this lens to get a bit more reach than my 12-40 f2.8 provides. So far I'm quite impressed with the image quality from the 40-150. The color is spot on, the images are sharp and the lenses... Show More

Amazing Lens
I'm not much of a zoom lens guy as I prefer primes since I always thought they were sharper. This lens proved me wrong. It's absolutely sharp and a delight to use. Worth picking up.

Must have lens!!!
The 40-150 F2.8 has the perfect range for almost any time of photography, nature, portraits, fashion, sports, & commercial. The focal length is equivalent to 80-300mm on a full format camera. The lens performance is outstanding in sharpness and fast focus and it is fairly light weight for it's category. I have also used this lens with the 1.4X teleconverter and the results are absolutely perfect with no loss in image quality or fast focus. This lens is definitely a pro lens!

Never used a sharper telephoto
All by itself or together with the outstanding Olympus 1.4x teleconverter this lens is so sharp that I can crop very close indeed on my bird photos, and so light that hand-held shots at maximum length are a breeze. This is the sharpest Olympus telephoto that I've ever tried, and build quality is outstanding too. Don't think twice about buying it!

Terrific lens!
Excellent lens! No formal lens test but from viewing my photos I find it to be very sharp. Use it with the 1.4x Olympus extender for extra reach and like that combo very much.

Amazing zoom
I bought this zoom to use with my Olympus OMD EM1, Mark II. I have a Nikon d810 with a 70-200 mm lens but it is heavy and bulky. I wanted this zoom to use for sports and wow, it is amazing. It is super sharp and small considering it is a zoom and it doesn't kill my arms with the weight. The image quality is amazing. This is my go to lens and camera for sports photography. I shoot a lot of swimming. I am interested to try it for animal photography too. It's a little hard to do that in the winter.

Amazing lens
Not only this this lens razor sharp at all focal lengths, the colors are also vibrant, and the build quality is absolutely beautiful. It's such a pretty lens I like to caress it sometimes. The focal length range is very versatile- good for portraits, wildlife, even telemacro and landscape. And a heads up, the function button actually does work on panasonic bodies too, as a focus limit button- if you keep it pressed you can take photos without the... Show More

Super Zuiko 40-150mm Pro
I've owned and shot professionally with the Nikon 70-200mm VR 1 & 2VR as well as Canon's 70-200mm IS I & II and after spending time with this Zuiko 40-150mm I can honestly say the resolution, IQ, build quality and AF speed equals or surpasses its competitors full frame offerings. This is un unreal zoom that is just incredible to hold & shoot with. Wow!

Trying to figure out if you want this lens or the Panasonic?
This is actually the one you want. I've been shooting m4/3 off and on for a while. When the Panasonic 35-100 came out, I got a very early copy. Don't get me wrong - it's an excellent lens. But this one is better. Loads better. The biggest complaint from m4/3 enthusiasts - it's too big. It blurs the line between a crop sensor and ff sensor camera due to its size. Short answer - no it doesn't. My ff body (Sony a99) and closest-to-equivalent-lens (S... Show More

Would strongly recommend.
So far very impressed with this lens. First venture beyond Nikon and Canon. Great clarity. Construction seems excellent. Much more impressive than I expected.

It's everything you could ask for in a lens!
No more fighting with the lens hood! It slides right back over the lens body for easy storage when you are finished shooting. This is my go-to lens for wildlife shooting.

Buy it now!
First things first, this is the very best long zoom lens for the entire M4/3 ecosystem, it can easily replace a couple of primes in your bag . Let's be honest, if you are looking at this lens and reading this review, you probably are looking for excuses to buy this lens instead of the more affordable Panasonic 35-100 f2.8, which I have not tried yet but have read to be a very good lens. Yes, this one is expensive if not very expensive, the price ... Show More

The lens works well, it is relatively light weight (in comparison to full frame camera lenses), it is easy to use for panning action. and the images are crisp. It arrived quicly and works as advertized.

A fine lens but big and heavy for m 4/3
This lens is big, heavy, fast, sharp and worth the effort to carry. Its zoom and focus controls are smooth and it is splash proof so rain is no problem. I often shoot at night around Boston and the ability to switch between auto focus and manual focus is very handy.

Great Lens
I use the lens primarily for nature scenes and it provides sharp images at all focal lengths. Great for birds and animal photos. I get extra length by combining it with the Olympus M. Zuiko Digital Mc-14x Teleconverter.
