I used to have a small incandescent light bar above my Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard, but it stopped working and I could not find a replacement that suited my environment. The keyboard's blackness and the deliberately dim light in my office, plus its unwieldy size, made me want to go another way, one where I could actually see which key was which. Because of excellent experiences I have had with a wide variety of other Logitech products, I decided on the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard. They offer wired and wireless versions; I went with the wired because I have plenty of USB ports to spare. It is wonderful, absolutely wonderful. It has a very classy look, thin with a surrounding bezel of clear plastic. It has a small wrist rest and very small feet in the back to give it a little tilt toward you. You can adjust the backlighting to three levels or completely off; the second-brightest level works well for me. The SetPoint software allows you to deactivate certain keys -- like that pesky caps lock, and turning it off is a godsend! The best thing about it, however, is the overall design and quality of construction. It is much more similar in feel to a laptop keyboard expanded to full-size; remember, laptop keyboards are built to outlive the computers they're attached to, and this feels so sturdy and smooth that it will likely do the same. The keystrokes have a very slightly longer throw than most laptops to protect your knuckles from impact, and the touch is light, extremely responsive and predictable, and somewhat clicky, which I love. The quality of worksmanship and material is truly top-notch, by far the highest I have ever seen in a keyboard. I am a VERY fast typist, 120 wpm. This keyboard has made me even faster. It is very responsive and after I got over the readjustment from the Microsoft Ergo design I am now typing at light speed. Lastly, I have considerable experience with Logitech's customer support, and I believe that it may be the best in the entire business world, not just the IT business, but of ALL businesses of all types. They truly bend over backwards to stand behind their products. I would recommend this keyboard to anybody anywhere. ... More

I use this keyboard on my desktop computer and I have to write that it undoubtedly has to be the best performing keyboard around. The great thing about it is that it requires no batteries, its corded (USB), so there is no lag time between the computer and the keyboard as battery performance winds down. The keys are quiet while typing and easy on the touch (short key stroke). Of course being from Logitech, the software is an easy download from Logitech and the keyboard is fully programable. Another great thing is that it is low profile and sturdy, it has some weight to it but not bulk, so it stays put on the desk while typing and of course, it is illuminated and has variable illumination at the touch of a button. Multimedia? Of course, more than I would ever require but it is there for the web surfer if needed. Probably the best feature of all in my opinion is that it is a USB keyboard, meaning no batteries to buy and personally I have never been fond of wireless from the beginning but somethings leave you no choice but then again, Logitech does. If there is anything about this keyboard that I don't like, I have not found it as of yet and I have two of them, one I have been using well over a year now and another thing is that there are no character decals on the keys, so no E's or T's falling or rubbing off after a months use or so. So, if you are not into wireless, purchase this keyboard from B & H, you'll love it. ... More

The Logitech Illuminated Keyboard is one of the best computer peripherals I have ever owned. I tend to have very sloppy typing skills, but I strongly believe this keyboard has greatly improved both my speed and dexterity. The key-press motion is swift and fluid, and the special design of each key compensates for off-center alignments of the typist's fingers. The box contains a CD with Windows drivers, but a USB to PS/2 converter is not included. This should not be an issue for most modern computer systems. The most recent drivers for this keyboard can be downloaded from the Logitech website. The drivers can be used to disable the caps lock key, and can also configure additional keyboard functionality. The keyboard lights up nicely in the dark, so it can be used when the lights are off. The back-lighted keys have a very small magnitude of luminous intensity, so the light is generally not visible during the day. The backlight is very noticeable in a darkened room, but it does not destroy the user's night vision. You can adjust the backlight intensity using a small key with a lightbulb logo; this key is situated in the upper right-hand area of the keyboard. I've found that this keyboard has greatly increased my productivity. I would strongly recommend the keyboard for professional work in creative media, computer science or engineering. ... More

This keyboard is outstanding, I bought it to treat myself as I spend a large part of my day typing. I've done the microsoft comfort curve keyboard and thought i liked it until i tried this keyboard. I was blown away at the weight of the keys, meaning the stroke is firm but not too firm. As others have mentioned it is nearly silent when typing. I spend alot of time sitting on conference calls and i always had to type very soft (not everyone adheres to this) but with this keyboard i don't have to change anything. The backlight wasn't part of the consideration of my purchase, it's kinda cool but I've never needed it. The one minor complaint and the reason i gave this a 4 instead of a 5, is that the keyboard is almost perfectly flat, the bottom row is raised on most of the keyboard, but the zero key on the number pad is almost flat. I do a lot of 10 key and i have made quite a few mistakes by trying to do the side thumb press when entering zero. I highly recommend this keyboard and is by far the best i've used for strictly typing. Another person said it almost makes you want to keep typing, thats true, I find myself enjoying typing emails with it rather than dreading doing the typing. Hope this helps someone make a decision. ... More

The keys feel nice to touch, pretty linear motion, gentle curvature. It's comfortable to use, and quiet. There are some design issues worth complaining about. 1. The indicator lamps for the SHIFT and NUM LOCK are at the lower left where they're not terribly apparent. It took me a moment to figure out why my password wouldn't work, until I realized it must have been the cap lock. 2. The backlighting for the function keys at top show only the symbols for the preset functions rather than F1, F2, etcetera. (The numbers are on the lower face of the key, and not backlit.) So you can't see what function key you're striking in the dark, except of course by knowing just where F7 is. This is especially unfortunate because Logitech provides a program to keymap the function keys, so the symbols can become meaningless. 3. There's no indication for when you've muted the speakers from the mute button. That's not unusual on keyboards, but it would be helpful. 4. The keys for volume up, volume down, mute, (as well as for keyboard lighting) are not function keys and cannot be remapped even with a third party program. So it's imperfect, but it's still quite nice. ... More

Like many, my computer is in the bedroom. Late night sessions meant hunting for keys by the light of the monitor and keying slowly to keep the noise down. More time wasted than productive. It became obvious a new keyboard would be needed. This one met all requirements for an acceptable price. It was a pleasant surprise when it arrived. It's solidly built. Despite its thinness it has a surprising weight that prevents it from shifting around under fast typing. Its laptop-style keys require less travel and finger extension, which suits me fine. The illumination is mostly uniform and is controlled with a dedicated key (four levels of intensity). I didn't bother to install the included software because the extra media functions weren't needed and because it's Windows-only. Al-in-all I am perfectly satisfied. Be aware that this keyboard is not for gamers, but for those who might prefer a laptop-style keyboard-- typists. ... More

I've only been using this keyboard for about 8 hours and love it... Takes a little getting used to the raised space bar (and those other buttons down there), but it's great. AND it's REALLY quiet!! I didn't know how much noise I made with the keyboard till I got this thing... Also, I like the logitech software that came with it. I didn't realize how much my Logitech mouse could do till I got this keyboard and started exploring the settings. It's a whole new world for me... Getting this Expose style app switcher, and stuff like that. It's nice!! So, yeah, off the bat, the big delete key throws me off a bit, along with the little backspace key, but... I can get used to it... This thing just feels rich... I figured I should treat myself to a nice keyboard since it's probably the thing I touch most during the day... ... More

I currently live on campus and as of late am using a dual monitor setup. In order to have enough work space I have to push my laptop to the corner of my desk, creating a very awkward typing position. This Logitech Illuminated keyboard was a perfect fix for my problem. The keyboard has a laptop key-feel and is very quiet. I get compliments from my project group members when doing CAD work all of the time. I utilize the hot keys, mainly the music symbol (set to open Itunes) and the home symbol (opens Google Chrome) all at the touch of a button! The hot keys may be assigned with the supplied disc. (Is Vista compatible) Now for the Illumination. You have the option to have Bright, Dimmed, more Dim, Off. It has exceptional visibility and has a great wow factor. Bought to replace an ancient Dell keyboard (that had become encrusted in gross). I do a lot of writing and gaming, so I was looking for something high end. The device is easy to clean - anything that gets caught up between the keys can just be blown out with some canned air. The keys themselves are well placed, comfortable to type on, and offer some nice tactile feedback. I've had some trouble with ghosting (could be an issue with the USB on my mobo though) and some problems with Steam programs freezing up on boot - definitely related to the keyboard, but nothing unworkable. The 'illuminated' aspect of the keyboard works as advertised, but I found it a bit disappointing. The illumination isn't super-solid in the lettering, making it look obviously backlit as opposed to 'glowing.' For the price, I would have liked something a bit denser, but it still looks nice. ... For a long time now I've wanted a backlit keyboard that I could use in the dark. I can type fast on a keyboard but I'm not a properly trained typist so sometimes I need to look at the keys. I was dubious going from a wireless KB to a wired one but it really didn't make a difference. This is a great keyboard. The longer key presses make a huge difference and its very comfortable to type with. All of the extra function keys are used by holding the FN key and pressing another key like how Laptops are set up. This saves space as there are no useless extra keys lengthening the keyboard and taking up space on your tray I'd say the only real con is that the Home/Del/End/Insert keys are not in the standard format which would make someone who IS classically trained in typing frustrated. But it was a non-issue with me. ... More

Wireless is a nice idea, but honestly, not many of us walk around the room with the keyboard under our hands. I was willing to give up the portability for reliability, and this one is certainly that. The keyboard default setting is backlit, however you can opt to cut the intensity or turn it off altogether. The newer small footprint processors from Dell have a total of 10 USB ports, so it was no sacrifice to give one up for this. Even if you are thinking of going wireless, you'll still need to devote a USB slot for the transmitter. Now I don't have to worry about battery power or if I've exposed the keyboard to enough sunlight. There's more important things to worry about than that. Keyboard strokes are sure and comfortable. Spacing is perfect, being wider than what you'll experience with most 15 laptops. For the price, this is an excellent option. ... More

Not only does the style perfectly suit me, but the feel of the keys and the overal functionality are top notch. Basically, as much as I was coveting this thing, it actually seems to meet my expectations. The keys are a little unique. I can't figure out why they didn't light the 'F' fucntion keys, and the backspace is smallish, but these are really non issues. While looking for low-vision keyboards I found this illuminated model. I thought I'd never adapt to or like a flat keyboard like this but I was so wrong. This is the best keyboard I've ever used. The illuminated keys look great and really help in dim lighting. The very small connector cable is nice. It makes for a cleaner installation. My hands and arms have been hurting a bit getting used to it but honestly I think it's because I've had such a relatively bad keyboard for so long. I spend hours on the computer every day, but I was using a cheap keyboard that made me feel like I was pounding an anvil. What a difference it is using this Logitech keyboard! My fingers dance over the keys! And the illumination is great when I want to use it in dim light. The non-skid surface and slim profile are bonus features I'm very glad to have.
